From Shirts to Rock..
In 1969 Mr. William Thorp founded Stanton & Novelty Confectioners Ltd by the merging of two of his former companies – Stanton Confectionery and Novelty Confectionery.
Stanton & Novelty’s roots however do not lie in the candy trade. William originally started out working in, then running and finally owning his own Shirt Factory. After a successful spell in the textile industry an opportunity arose to embark upon a new challenge - Williams neighbour was selling his rock factory (Novelty Confectionery). Wanting to acquire this factory to allow him to expand the textile business, it became clear that he had to buy the business as a going concern. Within 2 years the rock factory was a huge success and William had founded another factory (Stanton Confectionery). He decided it was time to focus solely on the candy industry and moved away from the textile trade altogether and never looked back. Many years of effort has seen the company develop a solid reputation for quality and both a friendly and reliable reputation.
Now in our 42nd year the business is still very much family owned. William is still actively involved in critical decisions although the day-to-day operations are now managed by his son Geoff and Grandson Elliot.
The company supplies seaside resorts, theme parks and other popular holiday destinations, and is at the forefront of innovation in both creating new products and automating where possible the manufacturing process. Supplying both wholesalers and retailers we strive to keep ahead of the competition by offering value for money products in a timely fashion.
